NASA Thermal Insulators Lesson Plan for Grades 4-6

In this lesson plan students will learn about how different materials affect the rate at which heat is transferred. The lesson centers on an experiment in which groups of four students measure how temperatures change in cups of different materials after being filled with hot water.

The lesson is intended to be appropriate for fourth to sixth grade students, and to occupy one and one half 55-minute instruction periods.
